Billion
Blades
of grass
And each looks like the others
One big family
Cousins, siblings, dads, and mothers
Ten billion blades of grass
In the sunshine on the hill
And I know when it rains
It gives each one a thrill
Fresh little blades of grass,
dancing in the breeze
It's a pleasure to be moving in
every blade of grease
Sleepy blades of grass,
and each gives out a yawn
The sprinklers wake them up
at the breaking of the dawn
And most people think that grass is quiet
They never listen closely,
they need to try it
Put an ear to the ground,
then hear the sound
At first just a smattering,
suddenly a chattering
Echoes from the earth,
it soon gives birth
To something so surprising,
a billion voices rising
Upwards and in mass,
it's the symphony of
Ten billion grains of rice
Tender shoots beneath
the clouds
Straight and so serene
Living life together
As a tapestry of green
Patient and so still, shimmering with dew
All glad to meet the sun,
knowing every day is new
But most people think that grass is quiet
They never listen closely,
they need to try
it
Put an ear to the ground, then hear the sound
It bursts just a smattering,
suddenly unshattering
Echoes from the earth,
it soon gives birth
To something so surprising,
a billion voices rising, upwards and in mass
It's the symphony of ten
billion blades of grass
Ten billion blades of grass
Ten billion blades of grass
Ten billion blades of grass,
and each looks like the other.
