the snow

stared

window.

presents
were piled
up high.

she cried.

she did dash.

to her bedroom

said.
Heather took

to the dress

saw a

watch chain
that
looped
around

around
again.

was as

as butterscotch

chain

his watch.

swapped
the dress
for the
chain instead.
She knew

present was
the best.
What
it was,
he
couldn't
have guessed.
Jim
came
home later through
the snow.
At home,
Heather's cheeks

aglow.

she cried.

Then she gave

He ripped
the paper wide
open and
the watch
chain
sparkled
inside.

a great guffaw.
Ha!
He giggled
loudly at

saw.

shop?
Uh,

swapped
my dress,
she said.
Jim laughed
more and shook

head.

get your bow.
