There are unconfirmed reports
from south -east London
of an explosion which rocked
the Bromley area
at 2 .45 this morning.
Several independent witnesses
have reported seeing smoke, fog
and localised electrical meteorological
phenomenon.
One resident has claimed to have seen
an unidentified flying object
rise into the sky
and in a searing blaze of light
fly off towards Crystal Palace,
leaving traces on the ground
of a red glitter powder.
He is being treated for shock.
The authorities have advised
anyone under the age of 25
to remain calmly indoors
and on no account to try to
retune their radios.
A Home Office spokesman
was unable to confirm
any particular risk
to the health of the youth of Bromley,
Beckenham
or Chislehurst.
