and I'll find

time, I read a book called

Dawn by
Day.
I bought
the book in a shop
in downtown
Baltimore
after school one
day.
The hippie cashier saw
the book, touched
my head, and
solemnly said,
You know, you're
never going to live to be
my age.
Do you know
what that book is about,
he asked.
I nodded
yes.
Some day I'll write
of the
Native
American prophecies
that state the passage
of this world into
the next.
There's
a map
in the book that shows
where the safest
places will
be and also places
in the country where
there will be things
like toxic waste
spills,
rioting, drought,
floods, and disease.
I came to

York believing the situation
did not look good.

high school I
told people my
plan was to
get the hell out before
the year
2000,
before all this shit
went down.
I'm still

come true slowly
day by day
as I spend
and expend.

root difference now
is I believe
more in the importance
of my inner
reality than
I do in escape
plans.
