Waking dutifully at first
To the now in different days
In the clothes and the memor
Of the last night's total waste
and a place where the whining bites
Cold water drowns the faith
In the hall, lady scrubs on the floor
Dreaming things she never
As she wonders what it's for
What they tried to sell her
What they didn't tell her
is her home is burning down
Stepping out to see the day
Disregard the human race upon its way
And it's indifference down to you
you have other things to do
Just attend to that which means
In the street, the man discussing the war
As another keeps the score,
Losses and gains, watching for change.
They told you not to lie,
But they never told you not to try,
